Gale Hadley Blackwell, Sr.
December 19, 1937 - September 23, 2017

Gale Hadley Blackwell, Sr. passed away Saturday afternoon, September 23, 2017 at his home.

Gale was born December 19, 1937, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Charles Hadley and Ardeth Lucille Johnson Blackwell. He married Mary Lucinda Wellfort on February 27, 1965, at St. Peters Church in Keokuk. They later divorced.

He was a lifelong resident of Keokuk and worked in quality assurance for St. Louis Diecasting of Keokuk for 20 years and for Methode Electronics in Carthage for fifteen years. He retired on June 1, 2000. He served in the National Guard and Army Reserve from 1956 to 1965.

Gale was The Church of All Saints, Loyal Order of Moose in Ft. Madison, and Fraternal Order of Eagles in LaSalle, Colorado, where he enjoyed attending with his son-in-law. Gale was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He also enjoyed hunting.

Gale is survived by a son, Gale Hadley (Jody) Blackwell Jr. of Carthage, Illinois, three daughters, Connie Imogene Blackwell of Carthage, Cindy Lucille (Mike Vaughn significant other) Cooper and Kathleen Renee Blackwell, both of Keokuk; three grandsons and 4 granddaughters; and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Lee Edward (Beverley) Blackwell of Ft. Madison and James Michael Blackwell and Marlene of Keokuk; sister-in-law, Sheila Blackwell and son-in-law, Perry Bradley of Greeley, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, David Bradley; two brothers, Jerry Lyn Blackwell and Larry Wayne Blackwell; sister-in-law Rosie Blackwell; and son-in-law Rashad Cooper.

A Mass of Resurrection will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, September28, 2017 at Church of All Saints with Rev. Robert Lathrop officiating. Inurnment with full military rites will follow in Keokuk National Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 27, at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers at 1212 Concert Street with family meeting friends from 5:00 to 7:00. A Christian Vigil Service will be at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening.

Memorials may be made to the family.
