James Jacob Sapp
July 15, 1929 - October 4, 2017

James J. Sapp, 88, of Keokuk, passed away at 8:39 AM Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at Unity Point Health - Keokuk.

James was born on July 15, 1929, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Charles and Grace Varner Sapp.

A resident of Keokuk for many years, James was employed in production at Stone Container in Keokuk. James served his country in the Korean War, where he received a Bronze Star for bravery in combat and heroism. He always had a smile on his face. He enjoyed his large family of brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. James was an avid bowler, loved to travel and enjoyed his baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals.

James is survived by his son Michael Sapp of Keokuk and daughter Terri (Scott) Smiley of Ft. Worth, TX; two grandchildren, Nicole & Brian Smiley; two great grandchildren, Anna and Andy Smiley; two sisters, Betty (Kenny) Boyer of Ferris, IL and Roline Fenton of Spencer, IA; five brothers, Charles Sapp of Oklahoma City, OK, Melvin Sapp of Alexandria, MO, Roy (Pam) Sapp and Dave (Yvonne) Sapp of Keokuk, and Bob (Denise) Sapp of Seminole, FL.

James was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Lewis Sapp, three sisters: Mary Moellerif, Ruth Gooding and Esther Kehler and three sisters in infancy.

A Celebration of his Life will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 7, 2017, at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 1212 Concert Street in Keokuk with Pastor Dale Thomas officiating. Burial will be at 9:00 AM, Monday, October 9, 2017 at Keokuk National Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, October 6, 2017 at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 1212 Concert Street after 3:00 PM with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 PM.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association.
