Hazel Jennings, age 88 of Mitchellville, died Monday, December 6, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at the Santiago United Methodist Church with burial following at Franklin Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2010 from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. The family will greet friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Hazel Jennings Memorial Fund and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The daughter of Harriet Blanche Goddard, Hazel was born on October 1, 1922, in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from Mitchellville High School in 1940. On March 10, 1945, she was united in marriage to Carroll Jennings in Altoona. Hazel was a member of the Santiago United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Friends and Neighbors Club of Santiago and enjoyed painting china as a member of the Des Moines China Painters Club. Hazel also enjoyed photography, winning several ribbons at the State Fair.
Those left to honor her memory, her husband of 65 years, Carroll at home; her daughter, Linda Brink and her husband Cal of Mitchellville; four grandchildren, Kelly Morse and her husband Kelly of Ohio, Deanne Vespestad and her husband Andy of Alleman, Kimberley Burgett and her husband Brian of Mitchellville and Kylie Johnstad and her husband Jason of Altoona; and nine great grandchildren, Drew, Erin, Taylor, Brooklynn, Alyssa, Justin, Brayden, Jordyn and Evan. Preceding Hazel in death was her mother.
