Ervin William Johnson

Ervin William Johnson was born on September 19, 1917 in Springfield Township, Iowa, the son of John J. and Alvena (Engelbarts) Johnson. He was baptized in the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Ledyard and attended Ledyard School until the 8th Grade and then he helped on the family farm.
Ervin married Doris Ann Brock on August 28th, 1940, and they farmed in the Ledyard and Lakota area for many years. Doris preceded him in death in 1983. He retired from farming in 1986 and moved to Armstrong. In 1996, Ervin moved into the Valley Vue Care Center, Armstrong, where he received wonderful care.
Ervin enjoyed many years of playing fast pitch softball, retiring from this at the age of 58 years. Also, he enjoyed going to the many polka feast and old-time dances. Ervin still enjoyed listing to this music for many years.
Ervin is survived by one daughter, Sandra (Russel) Sleper of Titonka, IA; four sons, Steven (Kathy) Johnson of Mesa, AZ, Ronald (Denise) Johnson of Bedford, VA, William (Sandra) Johnson of Armstrong, and Gary Johnson of Fairmont, MN; nine grandchildren, Michael Maschoff, Lisa Escherich, Scott Johnson, Staci Johnson, Shannon Johnson, Trent Johnson, Melissa Ellwood, Jeremiah Johnson, and Christina Johnson; two step-grandchildren, Angela Rizzo and David Manning; 15 great-grandchildren, Alex, Jacob, Megan, Samuel, Tyler, Andrew, Anna, Ellie, Madison, Brady, Skylar, Raygan, Paige, Josh, and Austin. He was also survived by four brothers, Raymond (Ella) Johnson of Ledyard, Rueben (Beverly) Johnson of Ringsted, Duane (Laura) Johnson of Ledyard, and Merle (Ramona) Johnson of Ledyard; five sisters, Laura Willey of Algona, Alice Nauman of Ledyard, Viola Albers of Crystal Lake, Luella Hagedorn of Buffalo Center, and Helen (Amos) Kessel of Lanesboro, MN; three sisters-in-law, LaDonna Johnson of Blue Earth, MN, Lillian Johnson of Ledyard, and Wilna Johnson of Swea City; a brother-in-law, James (Jean) Brock of Ringsted; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Doris; two brothers, Glen and Everet Johnson, five brothers-in-law, LeRoy Nauman, Hugh Willey, Raymond Albers, Melbourne Hagedorn, and Wallace Johnson; and three sisters-in-law, Sophie Johnson, Ruth Johnson, and Elaine Brock.
