Lavonne Helen Grice
April 9, 1924 - October 6, 2017

Lavonne Helen Grice, 93, of Geneva, passed away, Friday, October 6, 2017, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton in Hampton, Iowa.
She was born April 9, 1924, to Will and Leona (Rhutasel) Sherer on her grandfather's farm southwest of Hampton. She graduated from Hampton High School in 1941 in Hampton. Lavonne was united in marriage to Lowell Grice on April 9, 1943, in Geneva. She worked much of the time beside her husband on the farm. She liked to garden, loved her sewing machine; she began sewing at the age of 5 on her grandmother's treadle machine. Through the years she constructed clothing, draperies and quilts. Lavonne and Lowell had two children, son Terry and daughter Vicky. She was an active member of the Geneva United Methodist Church in Geneva. Lavonne worked 20 years in 4-H leadership, county committee and fair stand. In 1966, the family hosted a student from Denmark and joined the AFS organization of which Lavonne served as president for several years. She belonged to the Franklin County Historical Society and Franklin General Hospital Auxiliary. Camping, snowmobiling and traveling were favorite activities of the family.
Lavonne is survived by her grandson Darin Grice of Mount Vernon, granddaughter Kendra Harms of Austinville, granddaughter Erica Crawford of Des Moines, granddaughter Jessica Ouellette of Poland, Maine, sister Lois Schuler of Dows, brother William Sherer of Marion, brother Duane Sherer of Marion, daughter-in-law Phyllis Grice of Geneva and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Vicky, son Terry, brothers Howard and John and son-in-law Gary Terveer.
