Butch was born on May 11, 1940 in San Pedro, California to Howard and LaVerne (Gilmore) Cox. With his father serving in the Navy, he grew up in Hawaii, Iowa and California. After returning to Iowa, he met the love of his life, Marcia. The couple married on December 11, 1966 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Shortly after their marriage they moved to California for several years before returning to the family farm outside of Zearing. Butch worked construction for many years until he got a job at the National Animal Disease Center in Ames, Iowa. He took care of the buffalos and cows for over 20 years until he retired in 1995. He lost his beloved, Marcia, in 2002 and his heart never healed. Butch had a great love for his family, predicting the weather, enjoying nature, feeding the birds, and watching the deer in his yard.

Those left to cherish his loving memory are his daughters Victoria (Dave) Oler, Michelle (Ron) Cook; grandchildren Daniel, Kaydin, Destiney, Jessica, Nathan, Jake, Seth, and Abby; sisters Lila Soxman, and Sandra King.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marcia; sister Norma Olson; and grandson Michael.

Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing has been entrusted with the care of Butch and his family.
