In loving memory of

James T. Hunt

WESLACO - James Theodore Hunt died peacefully, with his family at his side in his new home in Weslaco.

James was born in San Antonio, Texas, September 8, 1931, and grew up on ranches in West Texas. He graduated from Sonora High School as valedictorian and attended The University of Texas where he majored in Plan II. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity.

After completing his military service in the army, he returned home to ranch. He married Linda Link in 1960, and brought his wife home to the ranch.

James served as president of both Texas Sheep & Goat Raisers Association and the Mohair Council of America. For many years, James served on the local school board. He enjoyed his membership in the Order of the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas.

In the Valley, James began growing roses. He loved arranging flower bouquets for the church services at Covenant (PCA) in Harlingen, Texas for many years.

He was involved in establishing the Evening Men's Bible Study Fellowship class in the Valley, and went on to serve as the area class Administrator for Latin America. This work took him and Linda throughout Latin America even living in Mexico City for three years and Quito Ecuador for one.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Velma and Bryan Hunt, and his sister Nancy Powell.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Link and their two children, Hillary Elizabeth and Bryan Link.

Visitation will be at his home, 1202 South Border #672 in Weslaco, Texas from 4pm-6pm on Wednesday, October 11th. Funeral service will be on Thursday, October 12th, 2pm at First Presbyterian Church in Weslaco Texas with Pastor Scott Floyd of Covenant Presbyterian Church (PCA) officiating the service. "I was an anxious young freshmen at University of Texas when I first met your father out in Sonora, TX. What a kind and gentle spirit he had! I still remember another visit when a platform was created out on the ranch for dancing. Many blessings and comfort to all of you!"

Sarah Neely wrote on Oct 11, 2017:

"Dear Linda, Bryan, and Hilary I was so sorry to hear about James. I know the service will be a wonderful celebration of a life well-lived. I wish we could be there to remember James with you. Hard to let our loved ones go -- I still wish I could talk to my Mom every Sunday night! I remember the night James brought you over to my parents' house before you all married and we were all so excited especially my mom to meet a new EastTexas Cousin ! Somehow we are related through cousin Ed Link or Henry Link I think! You and James were always so generous in sharing yourselves and your home with all of us. We miss seeing you all and when we have seen each other it always seems the years fall away and it was like yesterday! Prayers for you all and hope we can have a visit sometime! Will try to call sometime soon. We remember James - a kind man with a twinkle in his eye. Keep the memories that make you smile close to your heart . Love Sarah and Preston Neely "
