J Marvin (Marv) Edelstein, 82 passed away Monday at his home in Punta Gorda, FL. Marv was born December 8 1934 to Benjamin and Bess (Kaplan) Edelstein in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
After graduating from Rider College, Marv traveled the country as a salesman and district manager for Unisys Corp. leaving his mark in Virginia, Indiana, New York, Toronto and ultimately Florida, where he met and married his bride, Penny (O'Brien) Edelstein in 1993.
As an Army Staff Sergeant, Marv entered the service in 1953 serving in Korea until he was honorably discharged in 1956. He took great pride in his service to his country which he carried with him his entire life. He was a passionate supporter of Military Veterans. He put his attention to detail to good use with organizations that meant something to him, acting on the board for The Doug T Jacobson Veterans' Home, the local VFW and the Punta Gorda Military Heritage Museum. He also worked as a Public Safety Officer for the Broward County Sherriff's Office. If Marv had an opinion on something, you can be sure he would make it known. After serving on the Board of Directors for the Special Olympics, one of his proudest achievements was founding the Western Area Little League in 1991 in Weston Florida and ultimately, the Challenger Program, which brought little league baseball to special needs children.
