Margaret Winifred Ewoldt was born July 31, 1917, in rural Algona, Iowa, the daughter of Rufus and Myrtle (Bell) Lindhorst. She attended country school near Titonka and in 1937 graduated from Titonka High School.
On January 15, 1941, Margaret was united in marriage to Elmer Ewoldt in Fairmont, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple lived in various locations in Kossuth County before moving to the Whittemore area in 1956. Elmer died March 28, 1960. Margaret continued living in Whittemore and in 1964 she began working as the head cook at St. Paul's Lutheran School and remained there until the school closed in 1976. Margaret became a Gold Star Mother due to the death of her son, Bob Ewoldt, in Viet Nam on February 6, 1968.
Margaret enjoyed reading and doing embroidery. She was a past member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Whittemore and after moving to Algona in 1982, she joined the Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona.
Margaret died Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at the Algona Good Samaritan Communities. She was 89.
She is survived by her children, Loveda and Norman Barber of Farnhamville; Henry and Diana Ewoldt of Whittemore; Myrna and Gerald Meyer of Rapid City, SD; Lynn Ewoldt of Barnum; Craig Ewoldt of Farnhamville; Janan and Mike Gillis of Whittemore; Jim and Kathy Ewoldt of Sioux City; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Bill Lindhorst of Pflugerville, TX; Maxine and Francis Platt of Algona; Vida Mae Roth of Kansas City, MO; Jim and Janice Lindhorst of Algona; sister-in-law, Betty Lindhorst of Charles City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; two infant sons, Jerome and Rance; son Bob; daughter, Lorna and her husband John Christensen; brother, Ken Lindhorst; brother-in-law, Oscar Roth and sister-in-law, Arlene Lindhorst.
