Bertha Becker was born on February 4, 1914 at St. Joe, IA, the daughter of George and Louise (Wilmes) Thul. She grew up near St. Joe, attending St. Joe Catholic School and graduating from Livermore High School in 1930. Bertha was united in marriage to Peter Becker on May 25, 1936. They farmed their entire life south of St. Joe. She kept busy raising their five sons.

Bertha loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and music. She was an active member of St. Joseph Parish, being an organist in earlier years and also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

Bertha Becker died on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at the Algona Manor Care Center at the age of 94.

She is survived by three sons: Allan Becker and his wife, Pat, of Humboldt, Chuck Becker and his wife, Liz, of Stratford, and Jim Becker of Chicago, IL; two daughters-in-law, Kathy Becker of Boone and Judy Clarke of Estherville; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two special friends, Mary L. Becker of Davenport and Kathy Craig of Ankeny; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter, on November 27, 1990; two sons, Maurice and Art Becker; and her brother, Harold Thul.
