Gene Eileen Jorgenson was born December 16, 1924, to Irvin and Flavia (Eldridge) Morey in Des Moines, Iowa. Growing up in West Bend, she graduated from West Bend High School and was then married to LaMar Climpson on March 8, 1945, in Sioux City, Iowa. They divorced in 1954. Gene was a telephone operator for 13 years while living in West Bend.
Gene later moved to Algona and worked at Maid Rite as a waitress where she enjoyed visiting with the customers. On December 16, 1955, Gene was married to the love of her life, Peter C. Jorgenson in Algona. Peter passed away on January 11, 1989.
Gene truly enjoyed being a wife and mother. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her roses and flowers. Gene often said how proud she was of her children and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Visits from them were the the highlight of her day. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Gene became a resident of the Algona Manor Care Center in August, 2007. She enjoyed playing bingo and other activities. Gene suffered from a stroke on Sunday June 15. She passed away on June 17, 2008 at the age of 83.
Survivors include her children, daughter Sharon Stougard and husband Roy of Algona; son David Climpson of Ankeny, his son Bob and his daughter Britney; daughter Nitalisa Jorgenson and husband Stoney Turner and their two children Samantha and Mandy; daughter Sandy Clapsaddle and husband Jon of Manchester, Tennessee and their children Ame, Sara and Diana; son Paul Jorgenson and wife Gina and their son Peter; and daughter Terri Johnson and husband Mark and children Michelle, Mrs. Greg Penning and their children Trysta and Tayler, Jennifer and her children Chase and Cassie and Kelsey and her daughter Zoe. Also surviving are sister Laura Vore and husband Marvin of Pierce City, Missouri; brother James Morey and wife Shirley of Covina, California; brother Richard Morey and wife Marian of New Hall, California and brother Jonathan Morey and wife Barbara of Valencia, California. Gene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one son Jay.
