"Habeger Family- We were so sorry to hear about Kent. He made an impression on many young people, but one for our son, Kelan, that will never be forgotten. Kelan came home from State Fair one year and was disgusted that he didn't do very well. Dan and I told him he had to be the one to change that performance. He went to work: asking questions, watching others, attending a clipping/fitting clinic, and helping decide what cows would be bred to which bulls. He knew all that hard work had paid off after Kent judged our county fair and he told Kelan he had done an excellent job preparing his steer for the show. This meant more to that boy then any championships he earned after that. Thank you for sharing him with others, I'm sure having him being gone to these show limited his time with your family, but you did give all of us a gift with that sacrifice. May you know that our thoughts and prayers are with you!
May God lay his hand of peace on you at this time. The Richardson Family Dan, Sara, Danniele, Kelan and Rylan"

"Dear Marti, Ryan, Mitchell, and the entire extended Habeger Family,
I was shocked when I heard about Kent. I graduated from ISU in 1979 and moved to Algona to work for Pioneer Hi-Bred. I met Kent soon after this when we hired him as a detasseling crew leader. He worked seasonally for Pioneer for maybe six years after this. He was always happy, smiling, had the most positive attitude, and a great sense of humor. It seemed like he always had a practical joke up his sleeve. It??s been too many years to remember the jokes, but the feeling that Kent was a person you wanted to know and wanted to be around is still very strong.
I ran into Kent a couple of years ago ?? I can??t remember where, but it may have been the state fair. He had not changed other than his hair was completely silver. He was still the nicest person to be around. It seems like the years sure do go by fast.
When I first heard about Kent on Wednesday, I searched the internet to understand what had happened. Page after page of condolences and fond remembrances were already filling up the web.
My experience is that ??friendliness? is a strong character trait of the entire extended Habeger family.
I will always consider it an honor to have met and known Kent.

He listened as we shared stories of Chad and joked when we needed a pick me up. Dave sometimes gave me the heads up if Kent was stopping by. Usually he was just passing through on his way to somewhere but one night we talked him in to staying over and grilled steaks. He complimented my cooking being the gentleman that he is. Hats off to Duane and Shirley for raising such a fine young man. Although, as he watched me load up my baked potato he asked if I was really going to eat all of it and why I wasn't fat. It was a beautiful summer night and after supper we sat on the patio, enjoyed the view and visited. He was so proud of his family. He was a gift from God indeed and helped us more than you will ever know. He is forever in our hearts."

"Marti, Ryan and Mitchell,
When I think of my memories of Kent they start about 15 years ago at a show in Adel. That was the first of many shows that I showed under Kent as a junior exhibitor and first of many that was a very positive and learning experience. Kent was so positive with his words, actions, and most of all with his expressive smile. He was always willing to lend an ear to listen or to join a lively conversation. My life was touched as a junior showman by Kent and the friendship my family has developed with yours will have a lifelong impact. My family expresses our deepest sympathy at this difficult time. Remember that the wonderful memories we all have of Kent will never fade.

Please know how much we love each of you and wish that we could be there to wrap our arms around all of you. I hope that we can get home soon to see each of you. He was truly a great friend and I am so honored to have shared that friendship with him. He was respected and looked up to by so many, we lossed a great one, but know he's up there looking down on all of us."
