Gertrude Ann Diers was born May 11, 1919 in Whittemore, Iowa daughter of Henry William and Lona Margaret (Illg) Zeimet.

Gertrude grew up near Bode, Iowa and attended St. Joseph Catholic School in St. Joseph, Iowa. She was united in marriage to George Martin Diers on November 18, 1940 at St. John's Catholic Church in Bancroft. They made their home at Bancroft where she worked as a nurse's aid at the Heritage Nursing Home. She also worked at Tony's Food Market and as a home health aide for Kossuth County.

Following the death of her husband George in 1988, she moved to Kalispell, Montana to be closer to her son. She then moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1998 to be closer to her daughter; and she died there on Monday, February 15, 2010 at the age of 90.

Gertrude enjoyed crocheting and dancing. She spent much of her time volunteering and entertaining at nursing homes in Iowa and Montana in the Kitchen Klatter Band. Gertrude was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Bancroft being active with the Altar Society and she was also a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church in Kalispell, MT being active in the C.C.W.

She is survived by her son, William Diers of Minneapolis, MN; her daughter, Mary Leininger and husband Ron of West Valley City, UT; four grandchildren, James Diers (Mary) of Minneapolis, MN; Amy Fouad (Rheda) of Salt Lake City, UT; Steve Leininger (Emily) of Tucson, AZ; Roger Leininger of West Valley City, UT; four great-grandchilden, Maxwell and Miles Fouad; Bernadette Diers; and Taylor Leininger. She is also survived by four sisters, Elsie Kunkel of Britt, Josephine Weatherly and her husband Sam of Algona, Gladys Thill of Algona, and Marge Kinseth and her husband Roland of Belmond; a sister-in-law, Edna Zeimet of Algona; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George on November 22, 1988; her sons, James, Richard, and Thomas; and five brothers, Ernest, Julius, Eugene, Leo, and Art Zeimet.
