Charlotte Eva Nold was born February 10, 1926, at Mason City, Iowa, to R. Charles and Grace (Coon) Shanks. Charlotte graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1943, and was a music major at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, graduating in 1947. Following graduation, Charlotte taught school in Shellsburg, Iowa, for one year. She was married to Royal Nold on June 15, 1948, at Nora Springs, Iowa. Charlotte taught at various schools for 4 to 5 years before the couple moved to Algona in 1966.
Charlotte was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Algona where she participated in Women's Fellowship; was Junior Choir Director and sang in the Adult Choir for many years. She was a life member of the Girl Scouts, being a leader for more than 25 years; was a member of the National Women's Christian Fellowship; was a life member of the Algona Garden Club; was active in Rainbow Girls and a 50+ year member of the Eastern Star. Charlotte was also active with Meals on Wheels as well as being a hospital volunteer. She was a long time member of the Kappa Delta Sorority and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Charlotte became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society ~ Algona, in August 2005, and died there on Thursday afternoon, October 28, 2010, at the age of 84.
Survivors include her husband Royal of Algona; daughters Sharon (Jim) Hobart of Emmetsburg, Iowa; Jane (Larry) Herrig of Loves Park, Illinois; Nancy (James) Craven of Glastonbury, Connecticut; and Rebecca (Stephen) Stegmair of Loves Park, Illinois. Grandchildren, Joshua (Crystal) Hobart; Mark Hobart; Scott Herrig; Sarah (Stephen) Read; Michael Craven; Amanda Stegmair and Brian Stegmair. Great grandchildren, Kaylyn Hobart and Ryan Hobart.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, and two special aunts.
