Thomas Dean Carr, 64, of Lost Nation, Iowa, died on Monday, February 7, 2011, at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa.
Friends and family may gather for "One Last Party" in remembrance of Thomas on Thursday, February 10, 2011, from 5 to 7 P.M. in "The Bistro" at the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Hickory Grove Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa, at a later date.
Thomas Dean Carr was born on October 17, 1946 in Dubuque, Iowa, to Harold W. Carr and Mary Lois (Ralston) Carr. He was a graduate of Western Dubuque Community High School at Epworth. He was an Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War. He never married.
Prior to the military, Thomas had worked for John Deere, and after earning an honorable discharge, he began a career as a truck driver, working for various companies for many years.
Thomas enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards, watching football and hanging out with friends. He was a people person and most recently began baking pies for area residents.
Thomas is survived by 8 siblings, Ronald Carr of Hampton, IL, Edward (Nancy) Carr of Koloa, HI, Sharon (James) Foulks of Onslow, IA, Allan (Carol) Carr of Monmouth, IA, Dixie Bruns of Monmouth, IA, Cathy Miller of Maquoketa, IA, Douglas (Marla) Carr of Marengo, IA, and Carla (Donald) Clark of Monmouth, IA; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Thomas Dean Carr memorial fund has been established.
