Kathleen Camille Harris-Johnson, 62, of Burlington, died at 5:19 PM Sunday, October 22, 2017, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born May 31, 1955, in McKeesport, PA, she was the daughter of Alfred Anthony and Bertha Victoria Elizabeth Kuzens Roma. On May 3, 2009, she married Patricia "Patty" Johnson in Burlington, IA.
Kathleen was a custodian for the United States Postal Service and worked at Target in West Burlington.
She was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1973 until 1975.
She was a member of the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship. She enjoyed genealogy, books, computers, her pet dogs, traveling to see her family, and loved the warm climate. Kathleen and Patty were the first couple to be married in Des Moines County. She was the regional director of PFLAG "Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays."
Survivors include her spouse, Patricia "Patty" Harris-Johnson of Burlington; three daughters, Brenda (David) Frazine of Muskegon, MI, Kristin (Todd Lunsford) Harris of Burlington, and Eva (Sebastian) Roe of Richmond Hill, GA; one son, David (Jennifer) Johnson of Burlington; eight grandchildren, Taylor, Evan, Brendan, Paige, Karleciah, Ashlyn, Odys, & Clarati; one brother, Terry (Emily) Roma of Pittsburgh, PA; her mother-in-law, Jane Sommerfeld of New London; two brothers-in-law, Jeff (Sharlene) Sommerfeld of New London, and Ross Hartman of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister-in-law, Sandy Hartman.
Following the visitation cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.
The memorial service for Mrs. Harris-Johnson will be 2:00 PM Thursday, October 26, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Richard Johnson & Lydia Gittings officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Animal Shelter.
