Funeral Service for Tom will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at the Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg with military rites by the Iowa National Funeral Honor Guard and the Emmetsburg V.F.W. Post 2295. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 30, 2017 at the funeral home.
Thomas Leo Carrigan, son of Thomas and Eva (Laubenthal) Carrigan was born October 17, 1942 in Mallard, Iowa. He attended Mallard Catholic School. Tom finished his education and entered the United States Navy serving during Vietnam.
On February 20, 1965, Tom was united in marriage to Roxanna Rees at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa.
Tom always enjoyed being with his many friends, and he loved get-togethers with his crazy Carrigan family. He liked to tell stories, fish and garden. Tom and Roxie enjoyed trips to Florida and to the casino. He will always be remembered for the stories he told, the family he claimed (always subject to change), and his wonderful sense of humor.
He began working for International Harvester delivering machinery. Later, he owned and operated his own trucking company. After driving truck for many years, Tom opened Carrigan Tire Repair in Emmetsburg before moving his business to Cylinder, Iowa and opening Cylinder Tire Repair until his retirement. All of his patrons knew Tom was in if "Ol' Yeller" (Tom's '67 GMC pickup) was parked out front.
On Tuesday, October 24, 2017, Tom passed away at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Roxie of Emmetsburg; son, Thomas Carrigan, III and his partner, Tamara Krivanek of Winter Springs, Florida; three granddaughters: Brooke and Kirsten Carrigan and Nika Marie Krivanek; two sisters, Kay Girres of Graettinger and Rene Adams of Emmetsburg; six brothers: James Carrigan and his wife, Helen of Emmetsburg, IA, Terry Carrigan of Tempe, Arizona, Michael Carrigan and his wife, Charlene of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, Daniel Carrigan and his wife, Melanie of Eagle Grove, IA, John Carrigan and his wife, Jean Ann of Lenoir City, Tennessee.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Doug Carrigan; brother-in-law, Don Girres.
