Alvin Joseph King

Alvin Joseph King, Sr. was born on May 23, 1933 to the late Thomas and Corrine King in Mobile, Alabama. His father was a baptist minister who pastored his own church; and his mother was a devout Catholic. Although he was raised in the Catholic faith, he was destined to become a scholar and teacher in the Baptist faith. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church but also regularly attended bible study at Little Bethel Baptist Church.
He was a corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War and was Honorably discharged. He later went to college at Xavier University of LA (New Orleans) and received a degree in Pharmacy. While attending Xavier, he met his future wife, Juanita Marie Plummer King (of New Orleans), and they married in 1959. They were married for 33 years before she went to rest on October 24, 1992. In 1961, Hooks Drugstore moved him and his family to Indianapolis, IN. He later opened his own pharmacy, King Drugs. He was one of the first black owned pharmacy in Indianapolis. He retired from Kroger Pharmacy in 1995.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory; three sons: Alvin King, Jr. of New Orleans, LA ; Brian (Stacy) King of Canton, MI : and Scott King of Las Angles, CA; three daughters: Stacy Dendy, Kelly Taylor and Robin King all of Indianapolis, IN : seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
