NEW BOSTON, Illinois - Richard D. Stauffer, 83, of New Boston, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017, at his home.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, 1931 Houser Street, Muscatine, Iowa. Reverend Paul Brooks will officiate. Burial will take place in Island Cemetery, Fruitland, Iowa. Military Rites will be provided the combined squads of the American Legion Post No. 27 and the V.F.W. Post No. 1565.

Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Providence Baptist Church. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com


Richard was born on August 10, 1934, in Muscatine, the son of Cecil Amos and Thelma Sieh Stauffer. He married Marian Brockert on October 19, 1962. She preceded him in death on November 4, 1980. He married Twyla Davis on July 18, 1985, at the First Christian Church in Muscatine, Iowa.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War era. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and making doll furniture.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Twyla Stauffer; his children, Pete (Pauline) Stauffer of Moline, Illinois, Gary (Wendy) Stauffer, of Muscatine, Mark (Brooke) Stauffer, Connecticut, Steve Hoag and Brenda Allison of Illinois City, Keith (Judy) Hoag of Louisiana, Kevin (Carol) Hoag of Mechanicsville, Iowa, Dean (Kari) Hoag of North Carolina, and Dale (Joyce) Hoag of Muscatine; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Thomas (Ruth) Stauffer, James (Mary) Stauffer, Donald Stauffer, Shirley Workman, Barbara Harrison, Betty Blake, Nancy (Jim) Smith, Judy Rebman, and Linda (Gary) Papenheim.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marian; and one grandson, Brock Hoag.
