John H. Goetz

A graveside service for John Goetz, formerly of Wesley, will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Wesley, with Reverend Mr. Bill Black officiating.

John H. Goetz, 82, of Chandlerville, passed away at 3:24 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born December 15, 1934, in Wesley, Iowa, to John H. and Elizabeth (Erdmann) Goetz. He married Mary L. Chilton on April 9, 1983 in Sterling, Colorado.

Mr. Goetz is survived by his wife, Mary, of Chandlerville, two sisters: Donna Grandgenett of Algona, Iowa and Kay Schrauth of Emmetsburg, Iowa; brother, Ed Goetz of Wesley, Iowa; four step-children: Tim (Ann) Chilton of Beardstown, Glenda (George) Cox of Chandlerville, Jane (Dan) McCafferty of Pleasant Plains, Robin (Jim) Watkins of Chandlerville; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Goetz attended school in Wesley, Iowa. He worked with purebred cattle throughout his career. He was a devoted lifetime member of the Catholic Church and was a member of Knights of Columbus.

Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Virginia, with visitation one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Wesley, Iowa.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Catholic Church or Cass County Food Pantry.
