She shared stories of Scotland, revived my African violet, shared her music with the dulcimer and song, friend to all, her smile was always present and was a "day maker" for many, participated in everything and was willing to try new things, and so much more. She is truly one that talked the talk and walked the walk. She is missed but we'll all meet again one day."

Lorraine Dunn, 93, of Rochester, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at The Mayo Clinic, St. Marys campus.
Lorraine was born December 3, 1923 in Riverside, CA to Charles and Inez (Brown) Bruce. She was a graduate of Aurelia High School and later attended Iowa State University. On February 29, 1948, Lorraine married John Dunn in rural Cherokee, IA. With a passion for music, Lorraine started with the violin before buying her first dulcimer in Branson and teaching herself to play. Over the years, Lorraine built her own dulcimers from various woods cardboard and even a gourd. She was known as the "dulcimer lady", was a member of the dulcimer club in Mankato and then The Northland Mountain Dulcimer club in Rochester. She was also a member of Rochester Baptist Church. Besides music, Lorraine loved her animals, had a green thumb for growing all types of flowers, loved birds, especially cardinals and was an avid reader of Louis L'Amour books. Above all, Lorraine loved The Lord.
She is survived by her children, Mary (Brad) Mikkalson of Rochester, Kathy (Joe) Haldeman of Aurora, CO, Dan (Dorothy) Dunn of Owatonna, Kelly Dunn of Boise, ID, Jeff )Rev. Louanne) Dunn of Goshen, IN; grandchildren, Daniel O. Dunn, Kris Mikkalson, Jennifer (Cole) Wilcox, Karyn (Jeremiah) Richardson, Joann Haldeman; several great-grandchildren; sister, Eunice Duxbury of Scotland and sister-in-law, Flo Bruce of Clinton, IA. Lorraine was preceded in death by her loving husband, John; brother, Wayne Bruce and by her parents.
A funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m. Monday, November 13, 2017 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester with Pastor Don Noonan officiating. Visitation will be 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, November 12, 2017 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Monday. "Lorraine and her husband Johnny were special friends to my mom and dad. My dad stood up for them at their wedding.It was always such a special blessing when my wife and I would be at Rochester Baptist to see her sitting faithfully in her place and listening intently. She was so consistent in her life and love of her Lord. We will not see her here but we will anticipate meeting her in Glory. "
"We will never forget the first time Lorraine came to Rochester Baptist. She called the church and asked for a ride and said she would be attending from now on as the church was recommended by an acquaintenace of hers. She was matter-of-fact about it and had her mind set! We loved that about her...never any sway or indecision with Lorraine! From that to this Lorraine was faithful. She played the dulcimer on several occasions and enjoyed being present for fellowships, missionaries, and special activities. She even crafted dulcimers out of cardboard for several of our young people to practice on and enjoy. She adored the old hymns and special music. Voice of the Martyrs was a special publication she enjoyed and shared updates with Pastor regularly. Lorraine will be missed and was loved dearly by the folks of Rochester Baptist."
