Debrah Jean Vawter

Debrah J. Vawter, 67,

of Indianapolis, passed peacefully on November 8, 2017. She attended Hanover College and graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Education. She earned her Master's in Education Administration from Butler University. She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. Deb was an accomplished educator and principal with Indianapolis Public Schools for forty years, retiring in 2012. She taught at IPS #31 for 20 years and finished her career as Principal for IPS #34. Deb was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, James M. Vawter; daughter, Kathryn V. Vawter; sister, Karen Horth Powers (Mike Little); nieces Paige Powers and Aubrey Little; and nephew Kevin Powers (Samantha).

A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Broadway United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 1pm - 3pm preceding the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Deb's name to Broadway United Methodist Church Foundation or to the Indianapolis Public School Foundation.
