Myron L. Althaus

Myron Louis Althaus, age 92, of Whitewater, WI passed away on November 11, 2017 at SSM Health St Mary's Care Center, Madison, WI. He was born March 5, 1925 in Wingville Township (Montfort) WI, the twin son of William Harry Althaus and Clara Marie Novak Althaus.

Myron graduated from Montfort High School in 1943. He trained with the 101st Airborne before being sent overseas to Japan with the "A" Company, 1st Calvary, 7th Division. He returned and married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn R. Eckelberg September 2, 1950 in Cobb WI.
They resided in Madison for many years.

Myron was the owner of a Dairy Queen on the West Beltline in Madison. After leaving the franchise, he worked several years for The Wingra Stone Company, starting as a heavy equipment operator, to becoming the superintendent. He began along with his wife, to develop his own business which became the Dolphin Swimming Pool Company and was the largest in sales and installations in the Midwest at the time. He subsequently left Wingra Stone to devote himself full time to his growing business. Marilyn passed away in 1979 and he continued several years with his business. He felt a sincere devotion to his customers, and derived pleasure in working with them.

He married Mary Catherine Kiernan November 25, 1989 in Madison. They moved to Whitewater, WI where they made their home.

Myron enjoyed, and had a great respect for all of nature and the outdoors, and never missed a chance to pet a dog. He spent his free time fishing, hunting, and shooting at the Oconomowoc Sportsman's Club, Inc. He took great pride in being the oldest, and one of the top shooters in the club for many years.

In his life, he served as mentor and good friend to many, dispensing his wisdom and business knowledge, hospitality, life philosophy, code of ethics, and generosity where he saw fit. He lived a life devoted to the welfare of his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Mary, his twin brother Maurice Althaus, 3 daughters- Marsha (Jerry) Hartmann, Rhonda Althaus, and Sandra (Steve Heiderich) Althaus, 2 stepsons- Eric and David Kiernan, 4 granddaughters- Valerie (Kevin) Breneman, Stacia (James) Allen, Allisa (Tony) Cardella, Rebecca (James) Sawyer, 2 step granddaughters- Alyx and Sam Kiernan, and 5 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Vernon and Clarence Althaus, an infant brother, and a nephew.

A private interment will be held at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery Saturday, November 18, 2017.

"We only met Myron 4 1/2 years ago when we moved into the condo complex he and Mary live in. When we first met him we could tell he was truly a really good guy! He loved our dog, Paco. We just feel bad we didn't get to know him a lot earlier! We will miss him. Paco will miss him! "
