Sister Mary Kathleen Dolphin (formerly Sister Mary Augustine), PBVM, 76, died on Thursday, November 16, 2017, at Mount Loretto Motherhouse, 2360 Carter Road, Dubuque IA.

Funeral Services will be Monday, November 20, 2017, at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Chapel, Mount Loretto, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Key West.  Friends may call from 4-8 pm on Sunday at Sacred Heart Chapel, where there will be a vigil service at 7 pm. The Hoffmann Schneider Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Kathleen, daughter of Earl and Inez (Anderson), was born Kathleen Joan Dolphin on August 28, 1941, in Chicago, IL.  She entered the Sisters of the Presentation in September of 1959 and professed her perpetual vows on August 22, 1967.

She received a Bachelor of Arts from Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa, a Master of Arts from both the University of Montana in Missoula, and from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, and a Doctorate from the School of Divinity at the University of Chicago.

Sister Kathleen's ministries, spanning 54 years, took her to Ryan, Waukon, Mason City, Ames, and Dubuque, all in Iowa where she taught and worked in campus ministry and spiritual direction. She served as Vocation Director and in Congregational Leadership, was a professor of pastoral theology at Loyola University, Chicago, IL, and for 13 years served as the Director of the Center for Spirituality at St. Mary's College, Notre Dame. She celebrated her 50th Jubilee in 2009 and retired to Mt. Loretto in 2013.

Sister Kathleen was blessed with a terrific sense of humor and a lively spirit of adventure. She was a life-long learner, theologian, scientist and educator. A born teacher, she was dearly loved by her students. She was a national and international speaker and writer. As a world traveler, some of the countries she visited included Bolivia, Ireland, China, Sri Lanka, Australia, Russia, Portugal and Spain.

Surviving are her sister, Linda Dolphin, her brother, James (Melinda), a sister-in-law, Mary Lane Dolphin, nieces, nephews, and the Sisters of the Presentation with whom she shared her life for 58 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Dennis.
