Charles V. Peters, 69, of 2524 Hilton Road, Keokuk, died at 4:55 AM Saturday, June 22, 2002, at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa.
He was born April 17, 1933, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Victor B. and Carol Johnson Peters. He married Dolly Mortimer on October 19, 1952 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk, Iowa. She survives.
He was a lifelong resident of Keokuk. He and his brother, Gail Peters had owned and operated Peters Dairy. He was employed by Union Electric as a power plant operator for 18 years, retiring in February 2000. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and retired from the Army Reserves. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Keokuk Lodge #29, A.F. & A.M. He served on the Jackson Township Board. He enjoyed coin collecting, hunting, fishing, crossword puzzles and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Dolly of Keokuk; three children, Linda Fortner and her husband, Tom, of Keokuk, Victor Peters and his wife, Wendy, of Inverness, Illinois and Amy Peters of Springfield, Missouri; three granddaughters, Heather Evans, Amanda LeMaster and Jennifer Fortner and two grandsons, Garrett Peters and Conner Peters; a sister, Faye Bunch and her husband, Harold, of Macomb, Illinois; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Bruce; and his brother, Gail Peters.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 25, at DeJong's Funeral Home. Burial with full Military Rites will be in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.
