Michael Eugene Durst
July 24, 1943 - November 30, 2017

Keota-Michael Eugene Durst was born July 24, 1943 in Wellman, Iowa, the son of John and Bertha (Lewis) Durst. He graduated from Keota High School. Mike was united in marriage to Joanne Sondag on June 9, 1963 in Keota, Iowa. To this union they were blessed with three children. They later divorced. Mike worked as an auto mechanic for Buckwalter Motors in Wellman and Gretter's in Keota until retiring. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending his time going to stockcar races and working on racecars for the Boyse family. Mike died Thursday, November 30, 2017 at his home at the age of 74 years.
He is survived by three children: Tracy (John) Bermel of Cedar Falls, Jeff (Christine) Durst of Davenport and Matthew (Melissa) Durst of Blue Grass; 8 grandchildren: Abby (Adam) Luehmann, Jacob Bermel, Hannah Bermel, Hailey Bermel, Ben Bermel, Michael Durst, Lauren Durst and Reid Durst; a great grandson: Greyson Luehmann; two brothers: John (Sydna) Durst of Wellman and Duane (Peggy) Durst of Wellman; two sisters: Nancy Fisher of North English and Johnette Criss of Coralville and a sister-in-law: Bonnie Durst of Wellman. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Richard Durst.
Celebration of Life Service will be 6:00 pm Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota. Visitation will be from 4:00 to service time on Friday. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
A memorial fund has been established for Keota Q.R.S.
