Eunice Grace Mitchell
July 15, 1924 - December 2, 2017

Eunice Mitchell, 93, Malvern, IA, passed away at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital on December 2, 2017.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Malvern. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Private inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorial fund has been established.

Eunice Grace Mitchell, one of four children of Bertha Katherine (Larson) and Maynard Franklin Van Dorsten, was born on July 15, 1924 in Westline Township, Redwood County, Minnesota where she grew up and attended school. Eunice worked as a nursing home nurse's aide.

Eunice and Dale Everett Mitchell were united in marriage on February 8, 1966 in Wahoo, Nebraska. Dale worked as a truck driver and in 1987, the couple made their home in Malvern, Iowa. Dale passed away in 1997.

Eunice was a member of the United Methodist Church, the R.S.V.P. (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) and was a foster grandparent at the Glenwood Resource Center until her retirement.

Eunice knew everyone who lived at the Malvern Village where she made her home for over 30 years. She was feisty and spoke her mind but also had a kind heart and was a good friend to all who knew her.

Due to declining health, Eunice moved to the Red Oak Rehab in Red Oak, Iowa. She was admitted to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital on November 28, 2017 and peacefully passed away there on December 2, 2017 at the age of 93 years, 4 months, and 17 days. In addition to her husband Dale; she was preceded in death by her parents; and a son John Gill.

Eunice is survived by her siblings, Gerald Van Dorsten of Hawick, MN, Harold Van Dorsten of St. Peter, MN, and Helen Haines of Paynesville, MN and their families; her late husband's children and their families; several close friends, Tammy Biggerstaff, Phyllis Winchel and Rebecca Pearce, all of Malvern; and other relatives and friends.

"I knew Eunice for many years in the late 50's. Her husband, Mitch, and my husband, Ray, drove trucks for the same company. I spent a lot of time with her & she helped me with my son, Russ. Carolyn was in So. High School at that time & I really enjoyed her also. Dixie Dailey"
