Walter O. Lewis
June 27, 1939 - December 3, 2017

Walter O. Lewis, age 78, of Silver Ridge Park West section of Berkeley Township, passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Holiday Care Center in Toms River, NJ.

Born in Linden, Walter lived in Cranford prior to relocating to the Toms River area 12 years ago. He was a United States Air Force veteran and worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for Local 825 International Union of Operating Engineers. Upon his retirement over 15 years ago, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He often held down two jobs to ensure that his family had all that they needed. He was an amazing caregiver and provider. Walter was known for his willingness to help a friend in need - whether it was by giving away his last dollar, or simply giving someone his time. He was a kind-hearted man with a wonderful sense of humor. He had a passion and an appreciation for cars and formed the Igniters Club with his lifelong friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Milton and Bertha Lewis and his brother Milton (Russ). Surviving is his loving wife of 53 years, Susan Lewis (nee Gundersen); children Sandra Clark and her husband Roger and Mark Lewis and his wife Melissa; grandchildren Brandon, Alyssa, Sean, Mackenzie, Kristina, Jillian and Elizabeth; his brother Raymond and his wife Gerry; and many nieces and nephews.

In honoring Walter's wishes, cremation was private and entrusted to Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 8, at 11:00 a.m. at The Presbyterian Church of Toms River, 1070 Hooper Avenue. In lieu of flowers a donation in Walter's name can be made to the church.
