.Obituary for Barbara Slaughter
Barbara Jean Slaughter "Barb" of Edmonds, WA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 3, 2017. She was 81 years old. She is survived by her husband and best friend of 62 years, Charles Neal Slaughter. She was loved by many, especially her children Matt (Cindy), Linda, and Lori (David); her grandchildren Tim (Jasmine), Kelly (Andrew), Lauren (Tyler), Kristen, Mathew, and Elizabeth; her great-grandchildren Vada, Cora, and Lucas, and her brothers Steve (Lynne), Frank (Marijane), and Ron (Sue).
Barbara was born in the Seattle area in 1936 and grew up near Greenlake. She graduated from Lincoln High School. She was fortunate to have many loving parents. Grace Baum was her first and last mother; Helen McManus was her mother in her early years until Helen passed away when Barbara was 8 years old; and Kay McManus was her mother from age 8 well into adulthood. Henry McManus was her loving father.
Barbara was a wonderful mother who worked for the Edmonds School District when her children were young so she could take time off when her kids were out of school. As the family grew, she went to work at Boeing for twenty years. While she enjoyed her work, her greatest love was her family, and especially her husband. Together they could often be found sitting around a campfire at the ocean or in the mountains, exploring a cavern looking for stalagmites, playing cards with friends, or playing the slot machines at the casino.
Barbara was always smiling, gracious, and optimistic. In her last days she made sure to tell everyone how much she loved them.
