Edna Marie (Wells) Bockwoldt passed away Monday, December 4, 2017 at the age of 92 years at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.
Memorial services will be at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Stanhope on Friday, December 8 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be Thursday, December 7 at Athens Woods Estates, 1250 Hwy 175 E Stratford, IA where the family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m.
Edna Marie was born August 16, 1925 on the farm near Montezuma, Iowa to Earl and Mary (Donnan) Wells. Edna Marie graduated from Montezuma High School in 1942 where she was Valedictorian of her class. She worked for OPA during World War II and was Poweshiek County Deputy Recorder. Edna Marie met Kenneth Bockwoldt in 1950, while on a trip with a group of friends to Los Angeles, California. After their courtship they married on June 29, 1952 and settled on their farm in Stanhope. Edna Marie was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, DAR, and served on the Stanhope Library Board. Edna Marie enjoyed working at the local library and shared her love for reading with many children over the years. She worked side by side with her husband and son in their grain and hog operation. Edna Marie worked for Del Douglas in Webster City as a tax preparer, along with H & R Block and at the Henry Law Firm in Jewell for 28 years until she retired at age 83.
Edna Marie was a great wife, mother, mother in law, grandmother and friend. She loved to read, write letters that are still cherished by family that were lucky enough to receive them and take care of her loved ones. She will be missed.
Edna Marie is survived by her husband, Kenny of 65 years, her son Mark and wife Debi of Stanhope; her brother, Edward(Betty)Wells of Brooklyn, Iowa; granddaughter, Mackenzie Stodola and husband Chris of Woodbury, MN; grandsons, Jason Sawyer of Burlington, VT and Jeb Sawyer and wife Theresa of Excelsior, MN. Great grandchildren: Madeline, Freddie, Chiara, Adeline and Penelope. Nephews, Todd Christensen and wife Monica of Lima, Peru and Scott Christensen and wife Jane of Portales, NM. Niece Suzie Armstrong Gleason of Oskaloosa, IA. Cousins, Elaine (Mike) Eastman of Loveland, CO.and Don Benson of Kansas City, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister in law, Margaret Bockwoldt, niece Ann Christensen and beloved cousins.

She was on the Stanhope Library Board when I was hired as the librarian and remained an interested library supporter for all of the 33 years that I worked there. The Stanhope community was blessed to have her for so many years. When she and Kenny moved to Athens Woods I was happy to visit with her again when I volunteered there. She will be missed by many.
