Bonnie K. Waller, 55, of Zwingle, Iowa, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa.
A celebration of Bonnie's life will be held at 10 A.M., Friday, December 8, 2017, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 P.M., Thursday, December 7, 2017, at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Hickory Grove Cemetery, rural Monmouth, Iowa.
Bonita Kay "Bonnie" Shelton was born on August 15, 1962 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Robert W. and Marjorie Lou (Rohlf) Shelton. She was a 1980 graduate of Maquoketa Community High School. She married Thomas Waller on October 4, 1980 in Zwingle, Iowa. To this union one child was born, Gregory.
Bonnie had various jobs throughout the years starting with working at the South Inn in Maquoketa, then the Leisure Lake Inn, Maquoketa Community Schools, Maquoketa Care Center, and Rite Hite in Dubuque. In February of this year she found her calling with a job she truly loved as the Food Service Coordinator at River Bend Retirement Center in Cascade, Iowa.
Bonnie was known for her cooking and baking skills with baked beans and pecan and coconut cream pies being family favorites. She also had an extensive pig collection, enjoyed country and old time rock and roll music, and western television shows. She had participated in bowling leagues at the Cascade Lanes where she served as the secretary, and also was the Bernard/Zwingle correspondent for the Cascade Pioneer Press newspaper.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Thomas Waller of Zwingle, IA; a son, Gregory (and his girlfriend Samantha Kluesner) Waller of Worthington, IA; her mother, Marge Shelton of Macon, GA; sisters, Kathy and her husband Jack Benny Smith of Columbus, MS, and Brenda Gibson and her husband Mitch Miller of Jackson, GA; her mother-in-law, Alberta Waller of Bernard, IA; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rose and Randy Stoffel of Bernard, IA, Earl and Janet Waller of Bernard, IA, Allan and Tonya Waller of Bernard, IA, Barb Gantenbein of Dubuque, IA, Linda (Jerry) Hoftender of E. Dubuque, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, her father Robert W. Shelton, and father-in-law Clarence Waller.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Bonnie Kay Waller memorial fund has been established.
