Wayne D. Swisher
October 21, 1945 - December 2, 2017

Wayne D. Swisher, 72, of Alsace Twp., passed away Saturday, December 2nd in his residence.

Wayne was married for twenty three years to Cora H. (Jones) Swisher.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Philip and Annette (Dion) Swisher.

Wayne served as Sergeant in the Army, 1st battalion 46st infantry 196th infantry brigade in Vietnam July 1969 - 1970. He was wounded in combat twice and received two purple hearts for his injuries. Wayne earned a Bronze star for valorous actions and heroism in August of 1969.

Wayne was a mail carrier for the U. S. Postal Service for over twenty years.

Wayne enjoyed Para Gliding. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, especially with his wife Cora.

Additional survivors include Wayne's children, Gina M. McGuire and husband Tony of Huntertown, Indiana, Joseph Swisher and wife Maris of Mohnton, Connie J. McCoy and husband Michael of Temple, Carol Marie Carbaugh and husband Keith of Fleetwood, Diane R. Hetrick and husband Daniel of Reading, Donna M. McCartney and husband Kevin of Fleetwood, and Donald E. Delp of Reinholds.

There are fifteen grandchildren and three great granddaughters.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 8th at 11 am in the Milkins Giles Funeral Home, Inc., 4914 Kutztown Rd., Temple.

Family and friends may call Friday from 10 am until time of service in the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Salem Shalters Church Cemetery in Alsace Twp. where military honors will be performed.
