John Edward Ehlers, age 72 of Estill Springs, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at STRHS-Winchester. He was born July 1, 1945 in Rock Island, IL to the late John Henry Ehlers and Betty Pederson Ehlers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Ehlers and uncle, Howard Ehlers. John was a truck driver for over 30 years and drove for Consolidated Freightways until his retirement. He loved camping, fishing, watching westerns, and the Green Bay Packers. He was an avid golfer and played every Thursday with the Senior Group at Scenic View Golf Course. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Kris Ehlers of Estill Springs; daughter, Cindy (Greg) Peoplis of Rock Island, IL; son, John "Buddy" (Chrystal) Ehlers of Zebulon, NC; sister, Patty "Mike" Householders of Moline, IL; special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and Cis Drish of Rock Island, IL; grandchildren, Kayla Ehlers, Zachary Lutze, John "J.R." Ehlers, Beth Ehlers and A. J. Ehlers; great-grandchildren, Alayna Huddleston and Tyler Ehlers; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Friday, December 8, 2017 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 pm with Rev. Randy Jackson officiating.
