Velva A. Gitsch
December 28, 1911 - December 11, 2017

Velva A. Gitsch, age 105, of Rochester died on December 11, 2017 at Charter House. Velva Ara Dungey was born on December 28, 1911 in rural Chickasaw County, Iowa to parents, William and Beulah (Tubbs) Dungey. She moved with her family to Alpha, Iowa and graduated from Alpha Consolidated High School. She attended Business College in Waterloo, Iowa and took accounting and other business courses. On March 16, 1943 she married Vernon F. Gitsch in Hollandale, Minnesota and they moved to Dodge County to work on his family farming operation. In 1948 they moved to Rochester. Velva was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and was active in the women's circle. She enjoyed needlepoint, tatting, canvas stitching, embroidery, crocheting and refinishing furniture.

Survivors include eleven nephews, one niece and special friend, Joanne Wayne of Rochester. Velva was preceded in death by her spouse and two brothers, Donald and Lynn.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Christ United Methodist in Rochester. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Dodge Center.

"Velva was a great neighbor and taught me a lot throughout my life. She did not mince words and because of this I trusted her wholeheartedly. She made the best chocolate chip cookies! She will always be in my heart."
