"My condolences to the family. She was my teacher at Garfield and again at Senior High. I remember her well as a dedicated teacher with concern for her students. She would react with a smile when we teased her calling her Diamond Lil. She is a teacher I remember with fondness. "

Tom Gardner wrote on Aug 17, 2007:

"Howie, I am so sorry for your loss! I first met Lillian shortly after moving to Keokuk to fill the vacancy she created by her retirement at Southeastern Community College. We had several conversations about teaching English, about her students who would soon be my students, and about the community of Keokuk. All that she said back then gave me my earliest and strongest reasons for wanting to stay in Keokuk. She was a great teacher and a true community leader. I am just one of many, many people who will miss her. Tom Gardner "
