Robert Charles Laubersheimer, 86, of Keokuk, died at 4:00 AM, Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Montrose Health Center in Montrose, Iowa.
Mr. Laubersheimer was born January 22, 1922, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the son of Ralph C. and Jeannie Hancock Laubersheimer. He married Wilma Louise Seabold on September 14, 1947, at St. Paul Church in Keokuk, Iowa. She survives.
He graduated from Keokuk High School in 1940. He lived in Keokuk most of his life and had been employed as an office manager for the city of Keokuk. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ.
He helped at Keokuk High School football games for 43 years; 38 years on the chain gang and 5 years as a timekeeper. He received the Iowa Football Coaches Association Distinguished Service Award in 1985. When younger, he was a softball pitcher and pitched a perfect game in 1951. He coached the "Stars" girls fast pitch softball team which won the Iowa State Championship in 1981. He was a basketball official. He was a fan of the Cubs and the Bears. He also loved watching the bald eagles in the Keokuk area each year.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Laubersheimer of Keokuk; two sons, Robert Kenneth Laubersheimer of Keokuk and Wayne Laubersheimer and his wife, Donna, of Keokuk; two daughters, Judy Peyton and her husband, Flint, of Keokuk and Jennifer Laubersheimer of Keokuk; five granddaughters, Ashley Hinkle, Kirsten Dowacter, Lindsey Laubersheimer, Shellee Laubersheimer, April Girard; three grandsons, Brent Laubersheimer, Ryan Horner, Shane Harris; four great grandchildren; two cousins, Chuck Laubersheimer and Ralph Laubersheimer.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside inurnment services were Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at Sunset Memorial Park with Rev. John Tyler officiating.
Memorials maybe made to St. Paul United Church of Christ or to Keokuk Sports Boosters.
