Donna J. Smith
September 14, 1929 - December 19, 2017

Donna J. Smith, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Henry County Health Center, Mt. Pleasant. She was born September 14, 1929 near LaCrosse in Hancock County, Illinois to James H. and Mildred E. Thompson Crabill. On October 2, 1949 she married H. Noble Smith at the Mt. Union United Methodist Church; he preceded her in death on November 5, 1994.
She was a 1947 graduate of New London High School and was a member of the Mt. Union United Methodist Church. She worked at Shores Pharmacy in New London; West Hammond Henry Hospital and later at Medicap in Mt. Pleasant.
She and her husband moved to Lisle, Illinois in 1957, then to Geneseo in 1974, and later to Mason City to be near their son, Ted and his growing family.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the VFW Auxiliary #2561 and RSVP, both in Mt. Pleasant and she loved to volunteer. She enjoyed music and loved going to her grandchildren's school events.
Survivors include her son, Ted Smith; grandchildren, Marissa (Nathan) Varner, Nathanial Smith and Lydia Smith; brothers, Kenneth (Joann) Crabill of Keosauqua and Don (Carol) Crabill of Redbud, Illinois, sisters-in-law, Jan Crabill and Marvel Crabill of Mt. Pleasant, and Marilyn Crabill of Lomax, Illinois; brother-in-law, Bill Mathers, New London; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Joan Mathers; brothers, Jim, John and Dean, and one infant sister, Doris.
Private family burial will be held on Saturday at Trinity Cemetery, Mt. Union. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Saturday at Elliott Chapel, New London, with Rev. Deborah Stowers officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Fellowship Cup and VFW Post #2561, Mt. Pleasant.
