David Shuman

David Alan Shuman, 58, of Warsaw, Illinois, died Sunday September 21, 2008 at 12:13 p.m. at Keokuk Area Hospital, Keokuk, Iowa.

Mr. Shuman was born June 14, 1950 in Keokuk, Iowa the son of Robert and Mary Louise Neves Shuman. He married Sharon Hoppe in June 1971 then latter married Sherri Limkeman on November 28, 1981 in Hamilton, Illinois.

He graduated from Keokuk High School in 1969. He lived his early years and was raised in Keokuk and later moved to the Warsaw and Hamilton, Illinois, area. He was employed by Ducks Grocery Store as a clerk and Horner Box in production. He was of the Catholic Faith. He worked with Habit of Humanity and enjoyed helping other people. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, landscaping, gardening, and woodworking. He loved to be outside in the garden and with his flowers or just working on the yard. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Dallas Cowboys. He spent many years coaching and playing baseball. He loved to draw and to teach children how to draw. He loved his grandchildren and playing baseball with his kid's and grandchildren. He had a big heart for people in need. He gave the Gift of Life by being an organ and tissue donor.

He is survived by his wife, Sherri Shuman of Warsaw, Illinois; three children: Michelle Houghton and her husband, Kurt, of Keokuk, Lindsay Palmer of Keokuk and Austin Shuman and his wife, Jessica, of Hamilton; grandchildren, Alisha, Madisyn and Xavier Houghton, Taylor, Carter and Landon Palmer and Evelyn; father and step mother, Robert and Ruth Shuman of Keokuk; brothers & sisters, Jim Shuman and his wife, Gloria, of Keokuk, Donna Davidson and her husband, Gene, of Warsaw, Linda Hendricks of Hamilton, Harold Shuman and his wife, Linda, of Hamilton, Rose Moore and her husband, Joe, of Donnellson, Iowa, Joe Shuman and his wife, Lois, of Keokuk, Kim Vradenburg and her husband, Terry, of Keokuk, Iowa, Tony Shuman and his wife, Janis, of Hamilton, Rick Shuman and his wife, Brenda, of Keokuk, Kelly Gilbert and her husband, Delbert, of Donnellson, Iowa and Mark Shuman and his wife, Tracie, of Wayland, Missouri; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Weldon and MaryAnn Limkeman of Hamilton; brother-in-law, Tom Carskadon of Hamilton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Shuman; a son, Chisum Lee Shuman; a sister, Diane Carskadon; a niece, Melissa Ewart; and brothers-in-law, Harry Hendricks and Steven Horn.

Funeral services were Thursday, September 25, 2008 at DeJong Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Wagner officiating. Burial followed at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
