Lorraine Bertha Sierk
November 24, 1921 - February 26, 2011

Lorraine Bertha Sierk, 89, of South Sioux City, NE passed away peacefully Saturday, February 26, 2011.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in South Sioux City, NE with Pastor Carol Jean Stapleton officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson, NE. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Lorraine was a long-time member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, and was a member of Naomi Circle. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She was devoted to family and friends.

Lorraine was born November 24, 1921 in Hubbard, NE to Treff and Anne (Fricken) DeRoin. She married Thomas George Steven in 1937; they had one daughter, Sheryle. "Tommy" was killed in action in 1943. She married Arnold Earl Sierk, also a WWII veteran, in 1945; they had two children, Charles and Susan. "Pete" died in 1970. Lorraine lived in the South Sioux City area all her life.

Survivors include her daughter, Sheryle, and husband, Leo Merchant of South Sioux City; their children, Scott and wife, Celeste, of South Sioux City, and their children (Justin and wife, Melissa, of North Sioux City, SD; Anna, husband Drew Palmer and their daughter, Alaire, of St. Louis, MO; and Rhett of South Sioux City); Carrie and husband, Mark Closter, of South Sioux City and their children (Trey and Jordan); and Chad and wife, Traci, of Dakota Dunes, SD, and their children (Hannah, Christian and Ava). Lorraine is also survived by her son, Charles, and wife Diana, of Santa Fe, TX and former wife, Cheryl (Helzer) Sierk, of Houston, TX, and their children (Pam and husband, Sam Stevens, and son, Frankie of Houston, TX; Lori Hargraves of Houston, TX; Angie and husband, Andy Degetaire, and sons, Dalton, David and Steven of Houston, TX). Survivors also include her daughter, Susan Sierk, of South Sioux City and her daughter (Jessica Lorene Sierk of Omaha, NE).

Lorraine was preceded in death by husbands, Thomas Steven and Arnold Sierk; parents, Treff and Anne (Fricken) DeRoin; brothers, George, Frank, Clarence, Lewis and John DeRoin; sisters, Mabel Love, Charlotte Crane, and Pearl Nelson; and a grandson, Craig Thomas Merchant.
