Steve R. Maggart, 69, of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, passed away Friday, November 24, 2017 at Collier Hospice Center. Born July 21, 1948 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Robert L. and Martha L. (Gaylord ) Maggart.
He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School and entered the University of Illinois, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in secondary education majoring in Spanish in 1973. He had been a Spanish teacher at Abraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco, California before becoming a flight attendant for American Airlines out of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Him membership included Nichiren Shoshu Academy of Buddhism, Oak Grove Church of God and University of Illinois Alumni Association.
Survivors include his sister, Jeri (D.G.) Swoverland, of Fort Wayne and nephews, Tyler Swoverland and Trenton (Kristie) Swoverland; niece, Temple (Richard) Harris; and six great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
