Luella K. VanDerWilt
April 24, 1925 - December 20, 2017

Luella Kathern Geurts was born on April 24, 1925, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was an only daughter born to Floris Marinus and Louise Henrietta (Kruseman) Geurts, and had three older brothers: Lester, Harold and Melvin. Luella attended grade school at the Chester Country School and at Killduff, Iowa. She had to discontinue her education to take care of her mother and had aspirations to become a nurse. On June 24, 1942, she was united in marriage with Floyd VanDerWilt in Oskaloosa. Luella accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a defining time in her life on June 25, 1944. She and Floyd were blessed with two children: Shirley Ann and Gary Lee and lived all their married life on the farm southeast of Sully, Iowa. Luella was a dedicated homemaker to their family. Floyd passed away on June 27, 1997, and following his death Luella continued living on the farm until becoming a resident at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell, Iowa in August of 2014. She passed away there on December 20, 2017, at the age of 92 years. Luella is survived by her two children and their spouses, seven grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. They are:

Of her extended family Luella leaves one sister-in-law, Paulina (VanDerWilt) Kooistra of Pella, Iowa; along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; her parents, Floris and Louise Geurts; her brothers and their wives: Lester and Dortha Geurts, Harold and Jennie Geurts, Melvin and Iris Geurts; her parents-in-law, Henry and Minnie (Vande Krol) VanDerWilt; a sister-in-law, Florence and her husband, Carrol G. Renaud, and a brother-in-law, David Kooistra. Luella was in happy fellowship at the Gospel Hall at Sully for many years and later attended the First Reformed Church in Sully, Iowa. Her life was a quiet testimony of her love for the Lord.

Funeral services will be held
Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 10:30 am
Sully Community Church, Sully, Iowa
Interment will follow in the Sully Cemetery at Sully, Iowa

Visitation will begin Friday after 2:00 pm at Sully Community Church where the family will be present 5:00 to 7:00 pm Friday.
