In loving memory of

Donald Joseph Stuhldreher
August 28, 1935 - December 26, 2017

Donald Joseph Stuhldreher, age 82, of Indianapolis passed away December 26, 2017. Don was born on August 28, 1935 to the late Walter and Mildred (Brosnan) Stuhldreher. He was a proud graduate of Cathedral High School and the University of Notre Dame. Don served in the Indiana National Guard and was a member of the Service Club and City Club of Indianapolis. He was utterly devoted to his family, his community, and the Catholic Church, wherein he was a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre.

Don worked at Indiana National Bank for 22 years, and at Huntington Bank in Columbus, Ohio, from where he retired in 1990. Don leaves many, many friends and associates in Columbus, in addition to the multitude in Indianapolis, as well as those from the area around his and Toni's favorite place on earth, their cottage at Lake Leelanau, Michigan, where they spent countless days and seasons with family and friends 'in paradise.'

Don was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lou (Kaiser) Stuhldreher; by his brother, Walter ("Bud"); and sister, Anne Kessing. He is survived by his wife Antoinette ("Toni"), and children Sharon Stuhldreher; Mark Stuhldreher; Kurt Stuhldreher; Tim (Ginny) Greene; Lori (Gordon) Stanley; Peter (Laurie) Stuhldreher; Tony (Sara) Greene; Kevin Stuhldreher; Mindy Greene; Michael (Cristy) Stuhldreher; and Jennifer Greene. Also survived by his brother William (Mary Kay) Stuhldreher of Indianapolis, and by his sister Marjorie (William) Tobin, of Anchorage, Alaska. Survived also by his greatest treasure and light of his life, Don and Toni's 19 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Saturday December 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Indianapolis. Visitation and calling was held Friday December 29, 2017, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel. You are invited to visit the website

"I am happy I never came under the wrath of Mr. Stuhldreher, but laughed at Joe's comment of judge and jury when warranted... I remember him as a statesman and a gentle giant... loaning us the blue family van to go down to the Smokey Mountains for a short winter backpacking trip or to take it to Kentucky to go canoeing...A very giving man!! Don is now in all the glory of heaven... He has won the race...I am so sorry Nancy and I can not be there as we are out of tow, but know that our thoughts and prayers are with ALL of you. Tom Weisenbach"

"Dear Toni and the Stuhldreher and Greene children. I am so saddened to hear of Don's passing. My Christmas card to Don and Toni was returned to me today and then I saw the obituary in the Columbus Dispatch. I think the last time I saw Don and Toni was at my wedding in 1995. I loved working for Don at my first position at Huntington National Bank. He made my transition from working in academia to the corporate world tolerable. What a delightful man! I have the picture of the Four Horseman hanging in my kitchen of our log home. He gave me that picture to give to my Dad. Just last evening when people were over for dinner we were telling them the story of the picture. Toni, you and Don were so special to me and whenever I think of him I smile. You are all in my thoughts and prayers and I'm thankful I got to be a part of your lives. "

"Don had a bucket list something I am sure most of his friends knew. He never told me, but I suspect that one of them was to skipper a decent size power boat somewhere on the Great Lakes. Probably 12 years ago, maybe a few more, Barbara and I made arrangements with Don to meet at North Port, not far from their cottage at Leelanau. Once at the marina took the helm of our Nordic Tug 37 and for the next three hours we were his passenger as he expertly guided the boat aroud the shoreline of the south part of the Bay and then out to Lake Michigan and back. to the marina where we met one of hos daughter (sorry I can remember who) and several of her friends from Chicago and had lunch at Northport's famous local restaurant (can't remember the name). Don was a truly nice man in every positive sense of the word. He was an especially happy man that day and I was proud and happy myself to be his passenger. Gene and Barbara Helveston"
