Larry Dee Newman

Larry Dee Newman, 81, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away on December 21, 2017.
Larry was born in Bedford, IA on January 12, 1936. He grew up in Seattle Washington and loved the Pacific Northwest, the natural world, and wildlife. Larry graduated from Garfield HS in Seattle, where he excelled at tennis, in 1954 and afterwards attended Oregon State College for two years studying wildlife management. He graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Police Science and Administration in 1959.
After college, Larry completed basic training in the Air Force Reserves and was honorably discharged so that he could join the Washington State Department of Game. In 1960 he was appointed as an agent with the U.S. Secret Service. He served several prominent figures over the course of his 23-year career including service on the White House detail in Washington D.C. during the Kennedy administration, during which time he met his wife, Susan. Larry also worked with presidents Ford and Carter, as well as governors George Wallace and Ronald Reagan. Larry also conducted several undercover operations during the course of his career. Upon retiring from the Secret Service he was appointed Senior Director of Corporate Security for Western Union, a position he held for 10 years.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Dee Newman, and his beloved dog, Ginger. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Susan; daughter Melissa of San Francisco; daughter Michelle of New York City; son Brad of Louisville, CO.
Larry was an avid tennis player, fisherman, reader, historian, landscaper, gardener, animal lover and raconteur. He was a devoted husband and father who will be dearly missed.

A service is planned for Friday December 29, 2017 at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 West Olive Street, Fort Collins, CO. Visitation will be at 11am, memorial service at 12pm, with interment to follow in Grandview Cemetery.
