Bonnie Swagerty
March 9, 1926 - January 1, 2018

Bonnie Swagerty, 91, of Wakefield, NE passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018 at the Wakefield Health Care Center.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield, NE. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE.

Bonnie Longe Swagerty was born March 9, 1926 in Pender, NE to Herman and Esther (Morrell) Longe. She attended rural school until her folks moved to Pender, where she attended Pender School. She was married to Calvin (Cal) Swagerty. They farmed until they moved to South Sioux City where Bonnie worked for IBP in the Billing Dept., then went to Truck Driving school. She and Cal worked as a man and wife team, driving truck for IBP and then Hirschbach Trucking. When they retired and moved back to Wakefield, they owned and operated the Top Hat Bar for a short time. Bonnie then volunteered her time in driving the Gardner Senior van, taking Senior Center friends to doctors and fun trips for 15 years.

She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield.

Survivors include her husband, Cal Swagerty: son, Terry (Ann) Swagerty: daughter, Betty (Mike) Wood: 9 grandchildren: 11 great-grandchildren: and 1 great-great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents: 2 infant daughters: and a sister, Joy Nixon.

"I enjoyed working with Bonnie years ago, and visiting with her in South Sioux when Cal was on the road driving truck. In later years, we enjoyed visiting both of them in Wakefield. She always had a smile and was fun to be around. May God be with you, we will miss you."
