Stella K. Blackmon-Williams
August 7, 1922 - January 3, 2018

Stella Katherine Blackmon was born on August 7, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Frank Blackmon, Sr. and Odie Wadsworth Blackmon.

Stella attended School #63 and Crispus Attucks High School. She was baptized at an early age at St. Paul Baptist Church, Haughville, under the leadership of late Rev. Dailey.

After high school, Stella attended Madame C J Walker Beauty School and received her license to be a beautician. Stella moved away to San Francisco, California. While in San Francisco, she met and married Robert M. Turner of Council Bluffs, Iowa. They moved to Council Bluffs Iowa, and adopted a child, Constance Marie Turner. This was their only child.

While living in Council Bluffs, Stella had a thriving business in her home as a beautician for many years. Stella enjoyed music. She and her daughter took piano lessons together in the 1960's. Stella's mother, Odie, started the Wadsorth Young Family Reunion. Stella made a way to make almost every family reunion, until she was unable to travel for long period of time. The last reunion she attended was in 2014, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Aunt Sis, as she was fondly called by her family, composed the Wadsworth Family Song and family prayer.

Stella was very activie in her church and loved all of her family dearly. She was a Sunday School teacher, and superintendent serving at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Council Bluffs, Iowa. Later, she took a class and became a nurse aid at Jennie Edmundson Hospital, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and retired after may years.

On August 5, 1977, Stella married Walter C. Williams of Council Bluffs, They later moved to McAlester, Oklahoma. They attend West Bethel Baptist Church in McAlester where Stella served as Sunday School Superintendant. After Walter passed in 2002, Stella moved back to her birthplace of Indianapolis, Indiana in December of that year.

In recent years until her death, Stella was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Shaune R. Shelby. Stella also enjoyed going to the Crooked Creek Community Center several days a week for many years. They did arts and crafts and Stella enjoyed working Sudoku puzzles.

Stella recently celebrated her 95th birthday with family and friends. She departed this life on January 3, 2018.

Stella will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Blackmon Sr. and Odie Wadsworth Blackmon, her brothers, Frank Blackmon Jr. (Louise) and Thomas Carl Blackmon (Florence), sister Harriet Blackmon Smith, husband Walter C. Williams. She leaves to cherish her memory, Constance M Berry and companion, Eddie Ray, grandsons, Troy A. Turner, Marsalis Berry, Corbin N. Berry, nieces and nephews, Carla Blackmon Long, Frank Blackmon, III, Faye Meriweather (Randy), Sheryl Moore (William), George Vaughn, Walter Vaughn, Tony Vaughn great grandchildren, La Crisha Turner, Troy Turner, Jr., 3 great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends, and her childhood sister-friend, Elva White. Also special daughter in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Kim Dages (Ed) and their family.
