MUSCATINE, Iowa - Alice Jean Peniston, 86, of Muscatine, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Premier Estates.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 15, 2018, at St. Mathias Church. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Gannon Hall following the committal service.

Visitation will be from 2 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Ernie Peniston. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com


Alice was born on May 26, 1931, in Mystic, the daughter of James and Eaithel Mae Jones Wright. She married Earnest O. Peniston on December 25, 1949, in Centerville. He preceded her in death on November 29, 2007.

She sold Stanley Home Products. She loved to travel, fish, and tend to her garden. She especially loved and treasured her grand and great-grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory include two sons, Ernie Peniston Jr. of Atalissa, and Milton Peniston of Muscatine; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Jerry Lee Peniston; one daughter, Adalia Mae 'Della' Peniston; and her siblings, David Wright, James Wright Jr, and Margaret Beechum.
