Mary Powell
May 27, 1925 - January 8, 2018

Mary Powell, 92, passed away at her daughter's home on Monday, January 8, 2018 after an extended illness.
She was born in Selma, Indiana, May 27, 1925, the daughter of John and Eva McDonald.
Mary retired in June, 1995 after 29 years with Muncie Community Schools where she had started as a baker at McKinley Junior High School and continued for twenty-six years as a certified cafeteria manager at Claypool, Burris, and Northside schools. She had also worked at Wal-Mart North in the produce and clothing departments from 2003 to 2007.
She was a loving mother who enjoyed family, cooking, sewing, reading, and growing flowers.
Mary is survived by her two loving daughters, Pam Powell, Yorktown, Indiana, and Debra Goggans, Muncie, Indiana; brother-in-law, La Vere Haidet, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Virgil Powell; son-in-law, Robert Goggans, and nine brothers and two sisters.
Services will be Monday, January 15, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana, 47304 with Pastor Bill Bruneau officiating.
Visitation will be at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m.
Burial will immediately follow at Elm Ridge Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospice, 2401 West University Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47303 or American Heart Association, 113 North Council Street, Muncie, Indiana 47305.
