Elmer Norgart
November 12, 1918 - January 7, 2018

Elmer Holdorf Norgart, son of Holdorf Norgart and Luella (LittleJohn) Norgart, was born June 12, 1918 in Glaston, North Dakota and died January 7, 2018 at the Dallas County Hospital, Perry, Iowa. He was 99 ½ years old. A service for Elmer was 2:00 p.m. Friday January 12, 2018 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Chaplain Kevin Vryhof officiated. Burial followed at Violet Hill Cemetery with full military honors. Full Military Honors were provided by the US Army Honor Guard from Camp Dodge, VFW Post 85, Perry, American Legion Post 85, and the Patriot Guard. Refreshments followed the interment at the funeral home. Elmer grew up in the Glaston and Crystal areas in North Dakota. Elmer met the love of his life, Gudrun Marion "Goodie" Thorstenson, while roller skating and they were united in marriage on March 15, 1942 in the Lutheran Church at Mountain, North Dakota. At the time of Goodie's death October 29, 2008, they had celebrated 66 ½ years of marriage. They were proud parents of ten children: Gerry, Danny, Evie, Elmer Jr., Jeanette, Duane, Marie, Kathy, Becky, and David. The family lived in North Dakota in the communities of Crystal, Fordville, and Devils Lake. Gerry, Danny, and Elmer Jr tragically died in a house fire while they lived in Edinburgh, North Dakota. Later they moved to Perry in 1962. Elmer was a proud WW II Veteran. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant with the Army 576th Air Material Squadron 77th Air Service Group. Elmer was a lifetime member of the American Legion and a member of VFW Post 0085. His main love was his family. His children and grandchildren will miss his teasing and whisker rubs. Elmer was a hard worker. He farmed, worked for an elevator, helped others with harvesting, owned his own corn shelling business, was a Police Officer, dug graves, and assisted funeral homes with transporting. Elmer and Goodie were a friendly, outgoing couple, and enjoyed their trips to the Casinos to gamble and spent many anniversaries at Tama. In addition to their three children who died in 1949, Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Gudrun; three brothers Harold, Arnold, and Leonard Norgart; sisters Esther Norgart, Mabel Moen, Dorothy Morden, daughter Kathy Creese, grandson Evan Kelly Creese, granddaughters Kyla Wilson and Shaleah Donavon, great -grandson Gabe Creese, and son-in-law Jerry Launderville. Elmer was very loved by his family and his survivors will greatly miss him: Sons: Duane Norgart (Dawn) of Guthrie Center; David Norgart (Elaine) of Spencer; Daughters: Evie Launderville of Ogden; Jeanette Lewis of Rippey; Marie Pohl (Jim) of Perry; Becky Norgart of Perry; 17 grandchildren: Jeff Lewis (Dawn); Jeremy Pohl (Elizabeth); Dan Launderville; Phillip Creese (Colleen); Joseph Tolle (Stacey): Nicholas Tolle (Mel); Tyler Norgart (Paige); Ren Norgart (Jessica); Cody Norgart(Melissa); Joshua Norgart; Michelle Banks (Kyle); Christina McAfee (Clint); Stephanie Sloss (Rick); Kortni Norgart (Katie); Geneen Hilsenbeck (Mike); Shawna Hensley (Joe); Bre Bennett; and Liberty Norgart. Elmer was also blessed with 30 great grandchildren and one great- great-granddaughter. Other survivors are a sister Bonnie Ouhl of Fargo ND; sisters-in-law Rose Norgart of Jefferson and Ethel Thorlacius of Stephen MN; other relatives; and many friends. Memorials may be sent or left at the funeral home for later designation by the family.
