George Manikas
December 23, 1929 - January 5, 2018

George Manikas, on the feast of the epiphany, passed to heaven, Friday, January 5, 2018 at 10:41 pm.

George, born on December 23, 1929 in New Brunswick to the late James and Mary Manikas, and was a lifelong resident of Highland Park. He was known as "Mardi the Butcher" Owner of Mardi's Butcher & Restaurant; and also known for "George Manikas and the Greek Knights," a talented remembered musician. Over the past 20 years he had his own business, "Gigs," entertaining at nursing homes.

George served in the Army during the Korean Conflict having enlisted on July 19, 1951 and honorably discharged on July 1, 1953. He attained the rank of Private First Class; Military Police Officer.

He was predeceased by his wife, Harriet Manikas and his two sisters, Theodora and Angelica. He is survived by his daughters, Maria, Constantina and Anastasia; and his grandchildren, Jacqueline, Theodore and William.

Funeral Service will be Friday, January 10 at 12 noon at St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, Toms River. Interment will be at 2:30 P.M. at Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veteran's Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
