Mildred, 90, of Algona died Thursday, January 11, 2018, at the Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, Missouri.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona. Visitation will begin Tuesday at 12:30 PM until time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association, in memory of Mildred.
Mildred (Millie) M. Pentecost, age 90, died on Thursday January 11, 2018 at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, Missouri following complications of pneumonia. She was born on February 8, 1927 in Algona, Iowa to John and Roselia (Kramer) Loss. As a young lady, she was independent, caring, and spirited: traits that remained with her throughout her life. While caring for family members, Millie worked at a local café and at the Universal Plant in Algona. She continued to work at Universal until after her marriage to Howard D. Pentecost on November 11, 1950 in Mankato, Minnesota. Eventually becoming a stay-at-home mom to her children, Phyllis and Denny. After her children moved away, Millie and her husband ran the Algona Upholstery shop for over 20 years.
Millie enjoyed traveling with her husband until his death 1989. During the last twenty years, she escaped Iowa's harsh winters by visiting her children and grandchildren in Texas and Missouri. She enjoyed socializing with her friends and family. She was definitely a kid at heart. She loved playing games, cards, trying her luck at the penny slots, and putting puzzles together. Millie was a 40 year member of the VFW Post 2541 Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children: Phyllis (John Tilleman) Morris of Camdenton, MO and Denny (Sheri) Pentecost of Coppell, TX; grandchildren: Angie (Mark) Thill of Linn Creek, MO, Sarah (Edward) Pentecost Smith of Coppell, TX, Jade (Kevin) Sellers of Camdenton, MO, and Alexis Pentecost of Dallas, TX; several great-grandchildren: Joe (Bergen) Schattschneider of Des Moines, IA, Logan Thill of Forest City, IA, Connor Thill of Linn Creek, MO, Cambry Smith of Coppell, TX, Tristen Smith of Coppell, TX, Imogen Sellers of Camdenton, MO, and Elizabeth Smith of Coppell, TX. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings John and Rosella, and her husband, Howard Pentecost.
